About me

Happy New Year Everyone!

It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself. My name is Ashley Kerik, and I am the Owner of Malleable Mutts Dog Training.

After travelling and living abroad for 7 years right out of high school, I decided to get a University degree. I have always had a deep connection to the animal kingdom and a fascination with understanding animal behaviour. So I studied Zoology, with the goal of working towards a graduate degree, then a PhD in marine conservation.

While I was in my third year of study, the universe brought me my first dog, Yama. She joined my life as a puppy when I was 29 after years of waiting for the right time to make such a big commitment. I knew I needed to invest in our future and educate myself so I had a professional come to train us the day after we brought Yama home. Once I began training, I was hooked.

I branched out, started learning from other trainers in my area and eventually travelled to the USA to work under some of the worlds most renowned dog trainers. I continue to soak up as much as I can from shadow programs, podcasts, courses, videos, books and of course, hands on work with as many dogs as possible.

After completing my BSc (Hons) in Zoology at the University of British Columbia. My love of working with dogs and teaching others took me in a new direction. I decided to pursue a career dog training in place of graduate school.

And so began Malleable Mutts!

Yama, along with my desire to lead a life dedicated to learning and education, inspires me to help others understand how to efficiently communicate with their dogs.

My goal is to develop a mutual understanding between humans and canines by creating relationships based on calmness, love, trust and respect. I’m passionate about helping owners thrive with their dogs.

Crazy how life turns out, hey? I wouldn’t have it any other way!
